As kids we spent most of our time enjoying outdoor activities, going on excursions, camping and hiking in the mountains with our classmates, friends and family. Parents simply could not keep us in the house! However, in today’s era of computers, tablets, phones, video games and the Internet, it is hard to drive the kids out of the house. It’s difficult to explain to them just what they are missing out on and it’s going to get even harder to do so as they get older. To sparkle their curiosity for the great outdoors, introduce some fun and beautiful mountain motifs in their room.

THE GREAT INDOORS

It may be too early to go camping in the mountains with your little one, however, you could always bring the camping atmosphere inside. Start off with a simple triangular shaped mountain as a background. Choose from a wide range of inspiring wallpapers, murals and wall decals, or grab some washi tape and get creative. You would be surprised how charming the results can be. Add depth by playing with different shades – the farther the mountain the lighter the shade.

No camping trip is complete without a tent or a teepee where your little adventurer is going to spend the night under imaginary stars. To make the place as cosy as possible, stuff the tent with cute mountain shaped pillows and watch your mountaineer-to-be snuggle and daydream the day away.

ALL ABOUT WOOD

Mountains are most often covered in dense forests, right? As a child, you’ve probably drawn them with pine trees on top. So, it seems only natural to introduce some wood in the mountain themed kid’s room. Acquire or craft some striking shelves and coat hangers in the shape of a mountain and use the tips to hang clothes. If your kid is a bookworm, a mountain shaped bookend is going to be a welcomed addition to the room.

CLIMB EVERY MOUNTAIN

Fill the walls with a bunch of printables depicting mountain ranges. You can even choose to slip in an inspirational quote on the picture, such as “Believe and you will move mountains” or “Climb every mountain ‘till you find your dream”, to guide your kid while growing up. Mountain-climbers have tremendous self-esteem and self-awareness and if there is something a parent can do to help boost its child in that sense, these ideas sound like an easy shot.

STOP TALKING ABOUT MOUNTAINS…AND START CLIMBING

Now that you have raised your kids’ interest in climbing, build them a climbing wall so they can exercise and build confidence in a controlled environment. It’s much easier than it sounds, just make sure to carefully follow instructions.

As the saying goes “A man who moves a mountain starts by carrying away small stones”, you should start small and find out if your little ones are going to like the idea of a mountain themed room. If not, consider opting for some other nature inspired themes (such as Woodland Animals) to help them fall in love with nature.
