Hi everyone! Today our virtual plane landed in Perth where we are visiting a wonderful nursery belonging to a little boy named Archie. We were welcomed by coastal vibes, breezy palms, calming sages in a serene and natural setting..the perfect dream!

His mother Jemma, who is a paediatric speech pathologist, also has a passion for unleashing her creativity through interior and product styling, showcased on her Instagram account @missmillyandherolive. In our quest for trendy IG mama and interior accounts, this account was definetly a scroll stopper! We love how Jemma displays her favourite finds in beautiful styled settings together with cute photos of Archie and his two year old big sister, Matilda.

Thank you, Jemma, for letting us into your home and sharing the design details with us.

HOW LONG DID IT TAKE TO COMPLETE ARCHIE’S NURSERY?

Planning the overall concept of Archie’s nursery was an ongoing process. Something I think I very nearly started dreaming about throughout my pregnancy. I had so much fun creating my initial vision & mood board & continually added to these as time went by. The actual physical work (i.e. painting, wallpapering, panelling & styling) took about a month in total.

WHERE DID YOU LOOK FOR INSPIRATION?

I scrolled through Pinterest & Instagram at first, then combined the concepts I loved most with my imagination & voila…Archie’s nursery 🙂 Being an avid lover of interior design & working as a product & interior stylist creating content for online businesses, I have my go-to favourite interior stylists and accounts I follow that are constantly inspiring me.

DID YOU HAVE ANY DIFFICULTIES DESIGNING THE SPACE?

I think one of the most common difficulties (if you can call it that), is reigning in my imagination & creativity to fit a budget!!! It is so easy to virtually spend way beyond your means when sourcing inspiration from visual platforms such as Pinterest & Instagram! I can get quite carried away with my visions when designing a space, and often have to check-in with my practical-self (hehe).

Archie’s room is also quite small, so that in itself is a challenge when designing & styling. It is important when designing a small space, to use colours that will open up the space (i.e. steer away from dark wall colours that will close-in the space) & to not overcrowd the room with multiple large/bulky furniture pieces. For this reason, I chose light sage & whites as the main colour theme (with accents of rust), and selected light pine & rattan furniture to brighten up the space.

WHAT IS THE FIRST THING YOU THINK WILL GET CHANGED IN THE ROOM AS ARCHIE GROWS UP?

As he becomes a teenager, I can imagine “Geoff” the giraffe being swapped out for something a bit “older” and “cooler”. If that’s the case however, there’ll be no complaints from me, as Geoff will very quickly become the main attraction in my bedroom! I love him so much!
