Earlier in the year we had the chance to feature a lovely boy’s room belonging to Riley – and now it’s his sisters Scarlett’s room we’re visiting! It was no surprise to us that their mother Catherine would yet again impress us as she undeniably has a talent for interior decorating. When she’s not busy looking for new designs for her home located in Canberra in Australia, making diy projects and styling, she works part time in marketing and loves drinking tea, walking in the mountains near the family home, taking photographs and cooking. Today she tells us more about her inspirations and the design process behind Scarlett’s special space.

She starts out by telling us “I’m loving the warmer rusty pink tones coming through for girls’ rooms at the moment. I love seeing wallpaper in kids’ rooms, it can seem like such a big step but it makes such a great impact”

She then explains that her daughter is involved in design choices but within limits. She won’t let her into a store and select any items she wants, but will show her things online, as she did with the wallpaper to make sure she liked it. Catherine originally had another complete concept for Scarlett’s room when she first started thinking about her big girl’s room, but as her daughter started talking and pointing out what she liked, she realized that her original idea wasn’t right for her. She wanted to reflect her taste, so she felt that the No 74 was a good starting point together with fairy lights. From there she kept adding pieces gradually, creating a dreamy and cosy atmosphere brought together by the vintage floral wallpaper.

When we asked Catherine how she thinks the room will evolve as Scarlett grows up she replied:

“ The room has already evolved as she has grown and will continue to! The latest addition is the vintage writing desk, her old desk was too low. All her picture books are slowly being replaced with chapter books, she may need another bookcase to store all her books with the speed she read! The room will continue to grow and reflect her as a person and her needs.”
