Today we are really excited to share this gorgeous girl’s room that Amanda, the owner of Tasmanian interior webstore Interior Motives designed for her six year old daughter Ruby. If you haven’t yet discovered their webstore, then you’re in for treat – it’s packed with stylish practical and decorative items for the family home in a Scandinavian and refined style. Amanda’s love for Scandinavian design can also be sensed in Ruby’s room which also combines a boho and floral style that brings it all together so nicely. Let’s take a look!

How would you describe the look and feel of this room?

Ruby’s room ooze’s happiness! The botanical wallpaper creates a warm inviting feeling and really sets the theme. We incorporated scandi furniture pieces to suit the rest of our home but also a few natural textural items for a hint of boho.

Did you have an idea of what the space would look like, or did it
develop organically?

I’m a planner! I always visualize how I want my spaces to look but once I start researching items for the room I often discover something new which might be different to what I had imagined but fits with my design. Then the room grows from there.

What were the must-haves for Ruby’s room?

Her room is quite small so we were limited on the amount of furniture we could use. The wallpaper from Luxewalls makes a big statement without taking up precious space so that was perfect. The Bookledge from The Timba Trend also was a space saver as it hangs on the wall and not a big bulky bookcase. She has just started reading and really enjoys her books so I love that she can easily see the book covers which encourages her to pick one up and read.

What are yours and Ruby’s favourite elements in the room?

We both love the wallpaper, it has a canvas like texture which feels amazing. Ruby is crazy about animals & nature so the botanical print really brings the outside in! Ruby also loves her toadstool lamp from Little Belle Lights, it’s super sweet & she likes to sleep with a light on and this one has a beautiful glow.

How does the room fit with the rest of the family house?

We incorporated scandi elements like the bedside, bookledge, jute rug, leather accents and white walls to continue the nordic feel of our house.

Which is your number one styling advice that our readers can employ
when designing a kid’s room?

Be practical… Although you can be a little more creative with kids rooms it’s important to remember it’s for a growing child & to really inject what suits their personality & needs.

Are there any kids interior trends right now that you are particularly fond of?

I really love the indoor swings especially the macrame ones. I would have loved a swing in my room as a child! How fun would that have been!
