According to Pantone, the world’s most famous colour authority, the colour of the year 2019 is going to be Living Coral.
This bold shade sits somewhere between pink and orange and offers a vibrant experience of tropical sunsets, coral reefs bursting with life, and mystical adobe dwellings.
Living Coral is a true hybrid colour. Depending on the context, it can be sweet and whimsical, reassuring shade, that brings optimism and joy to the room. Mellow, candy-like and very retro, this peculiar colour encourages intimacy and joyful experiences. We could even go as far as saying that the Pantone Colour for 2019 is a perfect shade for bringing in a bit of cheer into a child’s space.
But Living Coral can also become overwhelming and a bit hard to swallow. It is no doubt a strong statement colour with brilliant qualities, but when it comes to kid’s interiors, it should be dealt with caution. It’s energizing nature feels almost neon at times, and if you wash the room with it floor to ceiling, it will most probably end up looking way too tacky or even intimidating.
But if we don’t count Rose Quartz and Serenity Blue, colours of 2016, which came as ready for the taking in any amounts, Pantone Colour of the Year is always strong and controversial.
Living Coral is no exception. According to Pantone, this colour is a duality of exotic natural treasures and the digital environment we live in today. It represents both tropical coral reefs that are currently being washed away of their rainbows, and our growing need for reconnection and intimacy that is being threatened by social media-oriented society. Not exactly fun and games, don’t you agree?
But one thing is sure – this is not a colour for everyone. But it is indeed a fascinating shade with so much potential that leaves no one indifferent. If applied with moderation, Living Coral can truly be a dream colour for kids’ rooms.
It looks unbelievably beautiful on upholstery (especially velvet) and wooden furniture. If you are looking for a fresh and upbeat colour for a statement piece such as a cot, changing table or a chair, you will want to consider Pantone Living Coral as your go-to solution.
We are talking accents here, so unless you feel ready for a huge commitment like painting the entire wall or putting up some floral wall decals in Living Coral (which can be a brilliant idea), try playing with textiles first.
Think curtains, bed linen, cushions and accessories. Eye-catching quality of Living Coral makes it a perfect shade for nursery mobiles. If your kid’s room is mainly white or neutral, and you are looking for an accent colour to shake things up a notch, try Living Coral.
Since this is not exactly a new shade in the design world (it’s been trending a few years back), so far it’s been working it’s magic mostly in girl’s nurseries. But knowing how creative you folks are with colour, we are certain you are going to blow us away with your creative interpretations in the upcoming year.
What do you think? Is it a go or a no?
