Hot off the heels of a good spring clean come the carefree days of Summer. Longer days, lighter nights and more clement weather offer the perfect conditions for revamping or freshening up living spaces with a lighter, brighter feel. Indeed, incorporating certain colour palettes can feel like a virtual trip to the seaside or a getaway to the countryside. Whether it’s ice cream sundae or vibrant sun-scorched shades, our edit of Girls’ Rooms with a Summer Vibe will transport you to vacation vibes, afternoon tea in the garden and lazy, hazy strolls by the beach.
Sylvie’s room is pastel-perfect and channels a delicious combination of minty sage and blush pink with a liberal splash of Little Greene’s Grey Stone on the extra-wide panelling by @thenglishpanellingcomp. The ‘Abbey’ vintage bed frame by @dreams_beds works perfectly with the muted colour palette and how adorable is that quirky Lyndon Bobbin bedside table? We love how the cutesy prints by @the.charming.press incorporate iconic Liberty prints. This is such a beautifully put-together room, full of childish charm, yet grown-up at the same time.
This sweet space is brimming with feminine touches and novel use of a canopy – possibly the first time we’ve seen one used to shroud a doll’s house. This magnificent specimen is The Grange by Victorian Dollhouses, a very lucky Marketplace find!
The colour palette is kept to a sugary almond pink but it’s the flowery wallpaper by that lends the vintage vibes to Milah’s beautiful girl’s room.
Kallie and Addie’s shared space is a mirror image of ordered beauty and a whole heap of character. Let’s start with those beautifully panelled walls, topped off with a spot of scalloping and painted in Farrow and Ball’s Light Blue. Two of our favourite techniques meshed together to fabulous effect. The rainbow wallpaper brings a cheerful vibe to the top half of the room with a welcome pop of sunburnt orange from the matching canopies. The fireplace surround was a Marketplace find, painted in Farrow and Ball’s Setting Plaster, and brought to life with a vinyl flame effect on the blackboard. IKEA’s Minnen beds are treated to a bed linen makeover with butterfly and dragonfly duvet covers by @hmhome and gingham sheets and pillowcases by @zarahome
This is girly twinning at its finest.
Olive’s room was pure magic even before she was captured giving her best tutu twirl and a wave of her wand. The walls and skirting boards have been painted in tonal shades of Aquamarine by @littlegreenepaintcompany. It’s a fresh hue that allows all the room’s details to breathe and is a perfect match for the marshmallow pink bedlinen. The slogan on the pillow, ‘No rain, no flowers’, is so endearing and we love how the magical theme is continued with the application of sparkly stars around the Liberty print mouse print by @the.charming.press
Pretty in pink personified. This is Mama Shannon’s favourite corner of the house and we can see why. The wallpaper adds a sense of gentle movement to this otherwise peaceful and serene room, reinforced by Mrs Mighetto’s fantastical creatures on a swing. In fact, it feels like a gentle sway occupies the whole space. Perhaps it’s the floaty canopy or the swan by @miniwinther_co taking flight. Wherever you look, there seems to be the softest suggestion of travel. Wherever this room takes you, that welcoming composition of bed linen looks set to capture the weariest of voyagers.
Ava’s room is a masterclass in neutral. It’s a great approach, especially if you go big on a gallery wall like interior designer mum, Michelle. The backdrop is a tropical palm leaf print wallpaper found on Etsy. It’s then layered with an eclectic collection of prints. Quack Stack by Betsy Siber and Double Vintage Rainbow by Manuela Carrat add a splash of colour while Maja Cunningham brings all the attitude with her Bubblegum Cat.
The blush bed adds another dash of colour against the white panelled walls and a sprig of dried, dusty pink meadow flowers on that sublime, scalloped rattan sideboard.
There’s something about the scalloping technique that just makes a girl’s room magical and Madison’s sweet space is no exception. Though pink plays a starring role, we love how Harriet has mixed it up with a vibrant bed linen print. Furn’s Endangered Floral bedding features a reversible wildlife print and adds a touch of nature to this otherwise tranquil interior design. This coupled with the hanging ‘wildflower’ banner tells us Madison is a girl full of spirit and adventure!
Flower power rules in this gorgeous girls’ room of contradictions. The colour palette speaks of arid deserts and luscious fields of bright blooms. We love the heady mix of Tuscan / Cali vibes in this sundrenched space. Sunflower decals by @misspiedesigns bring a burst of colour while dried palm fronds in the corner keep the mood grounded. It’s a space of subtle adventure and travel wrapped up in a bouquet of naturals, neutrals and a splash of earthy clays and terracotta.
Boho abounds in Addi’s beautiful blooming boudoir. The decals from @misspiedesigns are mixed with rattan flower decals by @stitchandstraw for a botanical theme, reinforced by a stunning side table by @poppyslittletreasures and a spectacular rattan headboard to match.
Vintage meets country in Coco’s distinctive brand of girly rooms. This spectacular roomscape shows that pink is not the only way to a feminine result. Layers of bed linen create a fairytale vibe and add to the country cottage feel here. The brilliant white walls painted in Vivid White from @duluxaus lend a stark quality, but a log burner and the abundance of textiles and cushions temper their coolness. The result is a clean, cosy modern space reminiscent of escapes to Granny’s house or remote farm stays.
She sells seashells by the seashore. This stunning boho room reminds us of the popular childhood tongue twister. The epic headboard is an early design by @inkah.nz, matched perfectly by the Sunrise rattan coat hanger above it. Sailah Lane’s wall decals and Palm Rays print bring a distinct ‘under the sea’ theme to proceedings.
Let’s talk layering, expertly demonstrated here with a cacophony of floral prints from @moozlehome and sunny pastels in this dreamy concoction. Oh, that spectacular gingham wallpaper by @lusthome. It’s not for the faint-hearted but when teamed with a palette of soft pinks, it’s positively dreamy. Add a vintage gold bed by @incyinteriors from @cottagetoys and you have all the things that girls are made of. We love this ‘quietly’ vibrant room.
Lilac and orange hues collide with polka dots for an innovative take on femininity. There’s just a touch of pink in the rug but still, this design direction has all the hallmarks of a girl’s habitat. Dried flowers echo the pillow print while a salt lamp adds just the right touch of coral. We love the clam handles on the rattan sideboard with an in-keeping pendant light by @wanderlustlighting.
As if the bed was not the perfect invitation to relax, there’s a deep-seated chair by @castletyau just waiting to take the weight off the weary inhabitant’s legs.
