The room that Hayley, a Brisbane based stay-at-home mum, created for her daughter Meredith, welcomes cool and calming pastel shades with a happy vibe. We also love all the carefully sourced details that add whimsy and interest. Today she opens the doors to this interesting space and tells us more about it.
HOW DO YOU DESCRIBE THE LOOK AND FEEL OF THIS ROOM?
Walking into Meredith’ s room I feel clam yet happy. Exactly what I had hoped for when disigning this space. The use of pastel colours and touches of natural wood help bring this sense of calm.
DID MEREDITH HAVE A SAY IN THE WAY SHE WANTED HER ROOM TO BE DECORATED?
Her big girl room has evolved from her nursery so she didn’t get a big say. She loves everything about it and enjoys her space.
WHICH ELEMENT DO YOU AND MEREDITH AFFECTIONATE THE MOST IN THE ROOM?
We recently added more shelves to Meredith’ s wall so she can access her book collection easily. We enjoy reading her bed time stories and having quite time in this space together.
DID YOU HAVE ANY MUST-HAVES FOR IT?
The grey feature wall with white dots really makes this room. It sets the calming feel.
WHICH PIECE OF FURNITURE OR DECOR DO YOU THINK YOU WILL KEEP FOR YEARS TO COME?
Meredith has a few beautiful hand made dolls made by Blooms And Butterfly Doll Studio, these will be kept in the family for her to pass on to her children.
WHAT IS THE BEST PART ABOUT DECORATING A KID’S ROOM?
Knowing that the kids have a space that has been decorated just for them. I love finding new items and gathering inspiration from the Internet.
WHAT WOULD BE YOUR DREAM ITEM TO PURCHASE FOR THE ROOM AS MEREDITH GROWS UP?
I have just purchased a Kip and Co velvet Otterman for Merediths reading corner which I have had my eye on for ages. As she gets older I look forward to getting a slim line desk and pretty chair to add to her room.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE THE MOST ABOUT BEING A MUM?
The constant love and joy that comes from having children, even though some days it can be hard work they make everyday worth living. I cherish every single day I spend with them and feel so very lucky to have had the opportunity to be a stay at home mum.
