The room that we will be visiting today is just as dreamy and elegant as the name of its owner’s mother – Chanelle. Yes, you guessed right, we will be visting a kid’s room located in France. To be precise, the family lives in the lovely region of Les Landes, close to the Basque country which is known for its charming hills and valleys. Filled top to bottom with Chanelle’s style and good taste, this room belonging to her daughter Lou is your ultimate childhood dream – a perfect balance of Scandinavian style together with special customized elements and cute details.
Chanelle’s talent for home decorating seamlessly translates into her creative skills too. She reveals that her brand Decotot, a collection of handcrafted wooden delights, was directly inspired by the natural style in Lou’s room, and in particular its wood elements.
The room was originally in vintage pink and gold tones and evolved into neutrals with dark blue a little by chance. Chanelle had to repaint the old dresser and happened to still have a pot of Farrow and Ball with dark blue paint. She loved the result and then everything else followed! “Finally I prefer it like this” she says.
Lou participated with the decorating of her room as her mother tells us “She was only two at the time when I started the room but I showed her things I like and she approved or not. And believe me, she knows very well what she wants and doesn’t want! For example, she chose the Garbo and Friends bedcover as she loved the print. The last piece she chose was the swan cushion.”
Chanelle also reveals that her favourite element in the room is the vintage bed as it was the same bed she slept in when she was a child. She adds “ I’m also very fond of the wooden mobile that I designed and created especially for Lou”.
To conclude this lovely roomtour, Chanelle tells us “Consider introducing vintage pieces to your kids’ room as it will add soul and a story to it. Customized décor will add personality.”
“But above all, the most important is to follow your heart!”
