Today we are inviting you to discover Isla’s dreamy and angelic nursery designed by her mother Sarah Coghlan who is also the creative mind behind the kids interior studio My Little Beginnings based in Perth, Australia.

Sarah believes it is key to have a dual focus on aesthetics and functionnality when designing a bedroom for your child. From a design perspective in Isla’s bedroom “It was important to consider the style of the rest of our home” she says and adds that she and her husband brought the bright white and timber furniture through into Isla’s bedroom which connects beautifully to their living spaces and then added colour and feature to the rest.

Sarah also tells us that the concept for the design was the journey of parenthood which can be seen through the circular motifs used throughout the room. There are the more obvious circles in the wall decals through to the more subtle rug and canopy shapes.

Because Isla is at an age where she is discovering and exploring, Sarah and Isla’s father Alex made sure to design in some features that would encourage that independent play. Some of the bookshelves are installed at a level she can reach herself  and the parents change up the display on the lower level to reflect what her currents interests are.

The multifunctional canopy creates a cosy cot cover and can can also be placed to the side of her cot on another hook to create a reading and activity nook over her beanbag. Her toy storage has been designed in a very loose and flexible way so that she can access the toys from her bags and baskets safely already, and this can easily adapt with her growing needs.

About My Little Beginnings Design Studio

Sarah Coughlan is a young creative interior designer that has been working for over ten years both in the commercial and residential markets in Perth, Western Australia. She graduated from Curtin University in Western Australia with Bachelor of Arts in Interior Architecture (honours) and has worked on a wide variety of project types for some of Perth’s leading Architectural and Interior Design practices. She has designed many children’s spaces in libraries, hospitals, community buildings, crèches and child care centres to name a few, and most recently homes. She started her own business in 2014 working largely with clients to build their dream homes. After becoming mother in April 2015, My Little Beginnings was launched, with a specialised focus on children’s interiors in the home.

Sarah finds that it is an extremely beautiful time to be part of her clients’ lives, when they are expecting a baby or redesigning their children’s room because their family is growing into a new phase of life. She works with the best international brands as well as a myriad of extremely talented small businesses nationally. She  works closely with her clients to design a space or a room that suits their style, their story and creates a space that excites their child’s imagination and encourages play and discovery.

My Little Beginnings is growing and expanding and Sarah Coghlan is loving every minute of the journey. She says “Having the opportunity to touch lives of as many families as possible over the coming years is our ambition and an absolute pleasure. We are continuously exploring new and innovative design ideas and we have some very exciting things happening in the near future.”

The Kids Interiors Team is of course very curious of what those exciting things might be and won’t hesitate to keep you updated!
