A nursery can become really interesting and eclectic if you mix unique vintage pieces with some modern elements. Evan is a little babyboy who lives in Columbus, Ohio and his parents has made a truly unique nursery for him..

A series of vintage wallart mixed with modern wallpaper or fabrics is a good idea if you are looking to cover a wall in the nursery without turning to obvious choices. The wallart becomes very eyecatching as they have all been framed in the same black colour. The dresser is vintage and is large enough to use as a changing table. The blue cart is from IKEA that you can easily paint any colour.

The wooden cot from IKEA is not the main design feature in this room but blends in nicely with the rest of the nursery. An option would be to paint the bars of the cot – but leaving it in its natural wood actually softens the look of the nursery room. The pillows are made out of vintage fabrics and don’t hesitate to mix bold checks (that are perfect for a boy’s nursery!)  with a more discrete print.

Another eye catching element is the bold black and white striped rug from Crate and Barrel. It doesn’t envade the room as black elements are present on several pieces in the room. A flag garland hung at the top of the windows is a good alternative to blinds (providing you have outdoor shutters of course).

Vintage books look lovely and can be placed on shelves as a decorative feature in the nursery. Break the linear look by placing some round hooks next to them or with an interesting shape such as these flower hooks. An adult shopping bag can be a great idea to hang on these hooks if it has a pleasing design that fits into the rest of the nursery room.

A simple furniture piece such as the Expedit shelf from IKEA is actually quite fine in a stylish nursery as long as all the decorative elements are carefully chosen and if the shelves are decorated in a tidy manner alternating baskets and interesting design pieces placed as little “style corners”.
