We’re taking you for a tour of the lovely boy’s room in green and cream tones designed by Alicia, a mother of two, who lives in a pretty town about an hour from Paris. You’ll  love this subtle Scandinavian inspired  room with a beautiful botanical wallpaper, that belongs to her eldest son, Elio, who is four. You can follow along with Alicia’s family’s life and taste for interior design at @alicia_hsx on Instagram. Thank you, Alicia, for letting us into your home and sharing the design details with us.

How did you find the inspiration for Elio’s room?

My main inspirations were my childhood memories and new discoveries on social media. I found a room on Pinterest with paneling and knew I wanted that, plus I have always had wallpapers in my own rooms, so I wanted to create the same unique style that only wallpaper can bring. Vintage décor was also on my radar.

How would you describe the style and mood?

I would say it’s a mix of styles, combining Scandinavian with vintage.

How did you start the design process?

I started changing this room when Elio left his cot. So I bought the new bed then I put a panelling halfway up the wall and then the wallpaper!

I left the white paint for nine months, but when my second child arrived I wanted colors. So I painted the base green, I changed its chest of drawers and recently I painted the arch in khaki green.

How do you think the room will evolve as Elio grows up?

I think I’ll consider changing the room according to his desires! If Elio still likes this green and flowery room, I’ll leave it as long as necessary.

If he asks me for a specific universe, then I’ll change but I will always try to keep this soothing and childish atmosphere. Maybe one day he will ask me for a blue room 🙂

Do you have any design advice for parents in the process of (re)decorating their child’s bedroom?

Take time and think about what you like! For the moment my children give me carte blanche to decorate their own little spaces, so I follow my desires, my ideas and change as many times as I wish.

But when they are older, I’ll adapt to their requests while keeping an aesthetic side and my passion for decoration!
