Sometime around the age of three children start absorbing the world through life events, books, movies and video games. They try all activities and roles they see happening around them by pretending to be a mom, dad, doctor, chef, repairman, their favourite superhero or anything they set their minds to. All of a sudden mom gets a helping hand in the kitchen and dad can stop worrying about quick fix-ups around the house. Little hands always manage to save the day and then fly off to planet Krypton.
Pretend play is an essential aspect of language and cognitive development and it is so darn cute seeing a child pretending to be an adult!
IN THE KITCHEN – I’M A CHEF
GARDENING – I’M A GARDENER
Together with the cooking set, the gardening play pretend set completes the “from garden to table” cycle. After tending to their garden and growing some of the most delicious vegetables, the little chefs can then prepare a yummy meal for the whole family to enjoy.
FISHING – I’M A FISHERMAN
Before your kids are old enough to hold a real fishing rod in their hands and head out to the great outdoors on a fishing trip, consider getting them a toy rod. It’ll allow them to practice at home for the real thing while having loads of fun! Just remember to tell them to afterwards release the fishes back to their watery homes.
TOOLS – HANDYMAN
Tools are hazadous, and kids should never ever mess with them under no conditions. But on the other hand, those same tools are a gold mine for your kid regarding creativity, problem-solving and craftsmanship altogether. Luckily there are versions of these grown-up toys made of wood and plastic intended for kids. With these mighty gadgets, they too can safely saw, drill and hammer like their adult counterparts.
LAPTOP – IN THE OFFICE
CAMERA – PHOTOGRAPHER
With the wooden camera, your kids will be able to snap fabulous imaginary photos wherever they go or create photo shoots at their pretend play photo studio. So, mom, dad, are you ready for some modelling?
PRAM – I’M A MOM
Little girls love their dolls and often like to think of themselves as their moms. They enjoy lulling their little babies to sleep, tucking them and taking out for a stroll. If your precious little one has that special doll she carries everywhere around, she would be oh so happy to have a miniature pram.
“Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood.” – Fred Rogers
