Every child is proud of their room ; it’s their own little world that fits with their personal character. It’s also a place where children gain independence as they spend many hours on their own; playing, sleeping and creating. A housebed for a boy’s room is a step towards independence and growing up as it will be his first “own house”. It can also serve multiple purposes as a real adult house does; a place for reading, cosying or sleeping.

A natural wood frame for the housebed reminds a little of a cabin in the woods. If you decorate the rest of the room in mostly grey, black and white then it will give the rooms a nordic feel to it aswell.

A black frame will certainly make the housebed stand out and the painted green border creates interest and gives it a forest look without it being obvious. We love the bedding from Cotton on Kids that always have some “wild” themes.

A black wall gives the room some drama, like the adventurous boy is sleeping in his house with the ceiling and windows open to the black sky. The wolf poster and moon contributes to the dramatic effect. You can even have a whole wall painted with chalkboard paint or place a large chalkboard so your little boy can draw his own stars and thoughts.

A house structure could also be added just to the top end of a traditional kids bed. It won’t feel like a whole house but is definetly cosy and gives some privacy.

The French company Bonnesoeurs makes this magnificient housebed that could also be used as day-bed, even for adults. We loves its solid structure out of untreated beech and its simple lines.

Now this housebed is definetly for an independent boy as he will have to climb up the ladder to his house and once up there he is really in his private own little world. It looks a little bit like a fisherman’s house and is made by Kids Factory who have a lot of creative ideas for kids housebeds.

A housebed can also give a contemporary look like this housebed with green frame from Casa Valentina.

Just a little warning before you show this housebed to your son..It’s a DIY project made by The House of Wood. You can obtain the full building plans and tutorial for this DIY cabin bed on their website. If this is the bed he wants then you will know what to do for the next couple of weekends..Have fun!
