In the outside world, the talk might be all about the coming winter of discontent, but safe within the confines of our familiar squares, there’s an abundance of comfort and joy. Interior design allows us to escape the humdrum and provides an outlet for creativity that’s both soothing and exhilarating. In tough economic climates, our homes become our inner sanctums more than ever before. Even if the budgets become tighter, we can upcycle, rearrange, and refresh room schemes with a simple lick of paint. Here’s to the season of cheer, home comfort, and ten of our favourite winter kids’ rooms to warm your heart and fuel your interior inspiration.

Now here’s a room to chase away the winter blues. Tonal greys and silvers offer depth and an inviting warmth. In contrast, there are icy hues in the powder blue bed and a snow-white feathery lampshade by @fabrykaform. The exposed wooden ceiling channels a Nordic sauna vibe while the half-moon wall light by @lights.and.dreams casts a warming golden glow. A smattering of stars on the sparkly canopy  creates the illusion of sleeping under the night sky, and, of course, you can always rely on @mrsmighetto to bring the magic in one of her dreamy framed prints.

Nina’s vintage bedroom is full of delicate charm in a muted palette of blush and vanilla creams. We love how the detailing on the antique writer’s bureau mirrors the gentle scalloped edging of the head and footboards on the bed. A rose-bloomed wallpaper brings an air of romance reinforced by an elegant swan head, and a pairing of feminine vanity cases adds a stylish pattern clash against the florals. A couple of sepia-toned artworks by @MrsMighetto complete this dreamy sanctum for one lucky little girl – her pet name, Ninka, Embroidered into the bespoke frilly cushion by @Mirabelle.pl

@_susanagreen_

Susana follows the interior decorators’ protocol with perfection. Less is more with colour when you add lots of detail layers. Nudes, mushroom, beige and winter white dance to the same tune in this stunning room full of treasures. There’s so much to call out in Sophie’s sweet room, from the lemon basket by @mikanueverydaybag and the rattan moon by @junoandjinx to the mushroom basket by @istome_store. Every accessory feels like a crucial piece that complements the next and fits together like a jigsaw. Everything belongs in this room and is perfectly signed off by the serene Bambi cushion by @nobodinoz. Her restful says it all. Herein lies calm and tranquillity.

@babyjesseandme

Cosy lives right here in Jesse’s wonderful little space – a dash of cinnamon spice adding heat to the otherwise neutral scheme. A spot of colour blocking on the textured wall adds an industrial edge and creates an anchoring frame for his @tuttibambini bed. Elsewhere it’s all about the detail again. The Round Dorm Shelf by @istome_store offers storage and wall art in one, housing a collection of charming pieces, including the adorable wooden mushrooms by @moon.picnic. We also love the beech wood routine cards by @hagelens – great for giving little people a sense of responsibility and autonomy with family chores and day-to-day activities.

@cozagraty

The earthy hues of Photowall Sweden’s Forest Friends wallpaper create all the autumnal, cosy feels here. Just a couple of panels of this larger-than-life print add a wealth of personality to this retro-styled space. An upcycled bed brings a dash of vintage charm and a touch of foliage here and there suit the natural styling and wildlife companions. It’s the perfect place to hibernate.

@hannasanglar

More woodland friends, courtesy of @jimmycricketau, assemble to create an outdoors-in vibe that says cosy loud and clear. The handwoven Copenhagen rug by @ClassicCollection.se lends a soft touch underfoot with its partial long pile and braided tassels. An upcycled cabinet gets a new lease of life in a minty teal that pops against the midnight blue of the forest lurking behind. We love the thread of rosy blush running throughout the room in the canopy, blanket and super-cute tapestry.

@happyboysco

Oh, Izaias. What a wonderful room. This arch trio decal in sand by @misspiedesigns makes such a feature in this pared-back boy’s room. There’s an underlying theme of transportation with a fabulous vintage-style ride-on by @hipkidpics and a rattan truck by @targetaus. A wooden world map puzzle by @busypuzzle is all the inspiration for the epic journeys ahead, and how about those bed stairs by @whatsie? They make quite the entrance to the world of slumber.

@juddandmarnie

Marnie’s room fuses milky tea vibes with a sprinkling of peach for a satisfyingly sweet and petite corner. The wall colour is Soft Stone by Dulux, but it has a subtle dusky tone. Scallops above the dado rail add a lovely feminine frill to proceedings. They’re joined by the dainty beaded wildflower by @bohomakes and the delightful fabric Elle flower wall stickers by @mursclairs. The soft terracotta in the Birth Poster print fits the bill perfectly and works in unison with the personalised name sign by @juniperstudiouk to declare who sleeps here. It’s Marnie with a capital M velvet letter pillow by @bettyshome! And did you spot that gorgeous flopsy Fleury Daisy pillow by @jellycat, just bursting to bloom out of the rattan basket?

@our_sussex_flint_cottage

It’s not just that cute little penguin beneath the canopy that declares a change of seasons in Teddy’s room. The whole colour scheme speaks of a magical winter wonderland. Icy whites and dreamy, creamy tones collide like weather fronts, but it’s all calm in this toasted marshmallow dream of a room. We love the collection of house shelves by @the hoppihippo. They create a little festive village of their own beneath the bunting and pom pom garland. It’s almost like Mama Milly has taken a scene out of a snow globe and rolled it out onto the wall.

@sarahslovelythings

We all need a welcoming space to retreat to at the end of a busy day, and Henri’s cosy room indeed measures up when it comes to home comforts. Neutrality is the order of the day with a subtle lick of toffee and cinnamon in the canopy and the mini cloud mobile by @myminilabel. A dozing Safari Lion from @FermLivingKids keeps the bed warm beneath the shade of a pairing of felted leaves by @ilayela_
