You can almost feel the sun and vibes of music when you discover Stella’s nursery designed by her mother, Izabella, the founder of Decor Petit, based in Sao Paulo, Brazil. It is colourful, lively and stimulating. – just what you would expect for a brazilian girl!

The room is small so painting the walls all white and adding pops of bright colours makes it feel lighter and more open. Izabella tells us that she had a limited budget so she opted for wall decals instead of wallpaper and designed the shelf herself that her husband then made.

The nursery furniture is also white which makes the colourful dots really stand out as the main decorative feature in the room.

Tiny details of colour on furniture can be added using stickers. Just make sure thought that you do it either discretely by adding just a border or harmoniously by creating an all-over pattern such as dots for example.

Children love to have their name on the door so everybody knows it’s their personal space! Instead of placing just a banner you could make this a decorative feature in the same tones as the room. You could also have fun making it yourself by cutting out letters in wood or fabric and painting or sewing them or by creating an interesting collage.

If you are looking for the perky dotty effect for the nursery then a round rug with pompoms will do the trick.

Narrow shelves such as spice racks is a good idea if you want to limit the number of decorative features in the room as it allows just to place books or posters in them. They can become a decorative element in themselves if you choose them in a specific colour that fits with the rest of the room.
