Parents sometimes face themselves asking the question on how to make their kid’s room look “boyish” or “girlish” and start thinking about colours and themes that would work for the gender of their child. But if all these preconceived ideas are set aside you could end up with a neutral gender kid’s room and it doesn’t have to be fade at all but can actually be quite colourful!

A white canvas with pops of colour works just as well for girls as for boys. If you stick to the colours of the rainbow you are safe! Boys won’t be very happy about pinks and purples (they might like it on shirts when they grow older but it’s not the case for young boy’s rooms) so avoid these all together.

Forest colours like orange, a little bit of red, mustard yellow, green and brown also works for both girls and boys.

Blue is not only for boys! This kid’s room has been decorated by Live Loud Girl and we have no idea if i’ts for a boy or girl. Maybe if the colourful hooks hadn’t been added then we would probably have guessed it was for a boy though..

The association of blue and yellow is neither boyish or girlish. It is also the absence of soft plushdolls or car designs for exemple that makes these neutral gender rooms. The colour on the mushroom lamp and the fox plushtoy makes the kidsrooms look more stimulating as a third colour on just one detail can make all the difference in a two-coloured scheme.

Yellow is another colour that we recommend for a neutral gender kidsroom. It can be in any tone, mustardy or bright and sunny. It’s a great colour as it is associated with happiness and motivation. Grey is a colour that is often used for neutral kidsrooms but has only been used in small touches for the cushions and details.

There are of course other colours that would work for a neutral kidsroom such as greys, beiges, black and whites..but that will be in another post!
