“When the first baby laughed for the first time, its laugh broke into a thousand pieces, and they all went skipping about, and that was the beginning of fairies.” ― J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan
Kids are inseparable from the phenomenon of magic. They see it and feel it everywhere, and we as parents know that they themselves are made of pure magic. J.M. Barrie thought us that the world is made of the sparkly pixie dust, and we can translate that dust into our kids’ room by introducing shiny gold touches. Here is how to create a royal-worthy nursery (or a toddler’s room) with the help of little something called magic.
Gold is metal, so here’s a hint – introduce it with (fake) gold-plated metals. Gold cradle railing will enrich the room with vintage refines. Complement this piece with other gold accents, such as a statement mirror, a floor lamp, and a conspicuous Victorian-era chandelier. All of this together will bring elegance into the space, which you will have to tone down so the room keeps it’s childish character. Do that by painting the walls in a light colour and using comfy and accessories like faux fur, wool cushions, blankets or rugs.
Look at the walls in your kids’ room. Are they happy enough? Sprinkle some good mood on them by painting or place décor murals in gold polka dots or stars on the bedside wall or on the ceiling to create an open-sky feel. However, a road more frequently traveled is using a wallpaper to instantly create a shiny backdrop for the rest of your décor efforts.
For a really glamorous nursery or kidsroom, start with the most important furniture pieces in the kids’ room – a gold bed, crib or dresser. You can give them a full paintjob or just refresh some accents, such as drawers’ handles, with a touch of gold. Then move on to the less obvious furniture pieces – a gold pouf or stool will look gorgeous.
Canopy is a detail that simply screams royal. Besides it awakens playfulness and imagination in kids. It can be installed above the bed for more magical dreams or in the corner of a room (with some help of a hula hoop) to serve as a play area and reading nook. Choose a pink or a white fabric, and adorn it with gold sparks and glitter, or opt for an all-gold fabric and make this piece even more eye-catching.
A kidsroom isn’t fully designed if it is not properly accessorized. A nursery or childrens room in search for magic must be adorned with carefully selected gold details. Start by displaying photographs, drawings, posters or adorable quotes framed in gold frames. Discover your creative side by making gold string art for the walls and shelves or shabby chic monogram wall décor. Include other beautiful accessories that would make the kids room shine – nursery mobiles, cushions, bed covers, sparkly drapes, rugs etc
It should be Christmas every day in a kid’s room. What’s stopping you to make it so? Get some gold string fairy lights and hang them on the walls, ceiling and around the shelves and dresser. Make the room look dreamier by hanging gold string lights along with the bed canopy or tent. You can also use Christmas lights to create the shape of your kid’s name on the wall.
Gold isn’t the first colour you would think of for a children’s room. Still, if you manage to do it with class and temperance by choosing it for details only, you will create a magical space where every child will feel special and happy.
