In northern Sweden, in a village just outside of Umea, there is a girl’s room that looks like it came straight out of Dreamland! This magical place embraced in a vintage look belongs to a three-year-old Julie, daughter of Viktoria, who we’ll have the pleasure of chatting with today!

Besides being a proud mother of two, Viktoria is a freelance photographer, blogger and stylist, head to heels in love with interior design and DIY projects. The way she decorated her daughter’s room speaks for itself and shows just how passionate Viktoria is about her work.

In her own words – their home is her studio!

But this beautiful kid’s space also proves that, with a bit of imagination and an eye for design, you don’t need much space to create a truly one-of-a-kind kid’s nook, even if it needs to be located in the same room where the parents sleep.

The room had an instant WOW effect on us! The first thing that really impressed us was the harmony between the dusty colour palette and vintage furniture.

I want my children’s bedrooms to be calm. Of course, they play in there as well and have all the colourful toys too, but in the evening we put them all in the basket or cabinet.”

The space acts as a playroom, but first of all, it’s a bedroom, so it needs to be down to earth and evoke a serene and cosy feel. No stress is allowed in this vintage Scandinavian paradise.

While coming up with the concept for the room, Viktoria struggled with some technical challenges but managed to turn them into an opportunity.

Our upper floor where our bedroom is located had a big water damage, so we have to share the room with Julie until its renovated. All she has is 1,5 wall for her furniture and toys, but it’s imperative to me that she feels like it´s her room and not just a temporary solution. Just wishing that our bedroom gets done soon so she can have the whole room for herself again. She misses her play kitchen“.

Our absolute favourite part of the room is the old iron bed, together with the dusty pink canopy and golden frames holding the timeless Mrs Mighetto prints. It’s a match made in heaven and a real eye-candy!

The bed is Viktoria’s favourite piece as well!

I love her bed! A vintage iron bed. I think it´s so beautiful, and real statement furniture that sets the mood for the whole room. I don´t know what Julie likes the most yet, but I think she´s very pleased with it all! I guess the toys are her favourites“.

Viktoria’s tip for parents looking to decorate their kids’ interiors is simple and echoes throughout entire Julie’s room.

Make it personal. Blend vintage finds with some new pieces you love, and find a good storage. Like our big basket. I absolutely love it“.
