Leah Carriger is a mother of two little girls and creates chic and inspiring spaces every day as the creative director of Beijos Events, an events styling company based in California. When she designed the nursery of her youngest daughter Isla Jean, she wanted a unique space that that would grow with her, that didn’t look like a nursery from out of a children’s store catalogue. Her secret is to put love in the process first of all, trusting her instincts, to play and have fun!

ethnic chic nursery

The rug was the first piece that Leah chose for the nursery. She wanted a bright and light room, but not boring, so the bold graphic rug fills the room with colour perfectly. The other décor ideas came naturally after choosing the rug as the focal piece. Leah tells us that she loves to play with things and sometimes she tried out pieces for the nursery that she initially didn’t think would go at all – and it turned out they did, which created a surprise that actually looked funky and fresh.

The crisp white walls set as a perfect backdrop for the colourful elements and the dark wooden floorboards. The coral peach cushion in the cot balances with the pink found on the rug and the yellow cushion brings an element of surprise. Leah’s decoration tips is not to be too matchy and to play with texture and colour to make the space visually stimulating. Some metallics too is a must!

Leah even brought some pop of fluo colours into the nursery with the lampsign.

antique dresser nursery

The dresser is an antique piece that Leah had in her own room when she was at high school. It definetly brings alot of charm and an interesting contrast to the modern and ethnic moroccan elements found elsewhere in the room.

The golden birds mobile creates a feel and tone of whimsy.

orange pink pillows nursery

Gold metallics give a glamorous look and can be found on Isla’s name cushion. We absolutely adore the bright pop of orange on the plushdoll!

shelves nursery

A hanging green plant is a good idea to place on nursery shelves as too many objects can look a little bit staged and rigid.

hexagon shelves nursery

The hexagon shelves were one of  Leah’s must-haves and we understand why!

Every detail counts. Even choosing original golden elephant hooks where Isla’s future ballet tutu hangs as well as a beautiful vintage-style dress with a colourful duck embroidery.
