Leo & Grace is a UK based interior design business launched in October 2017 by mum of two, Mel Weber, after she struggled to find modern and contemporary décor for her own kids’ rooms.  She now works with busy mums and dads around the UK creating modern, playful rooms loved by the whole family. Today she is showing us one of her recent projects created for a little girl named Amelie.

WHAT WAS THE DESIGN BRIEF FOR THIS NURSERY?

Amelie’s mum asked me to help design a Scandi-style bedroom for her then twenty month old daughter that would grow with her child.  She had also fallen in love with a Rachel Powell print of a girl in a yellow coat that reminded her of her daughter so this was the starting point for the design.

CAN YOU TELL US IF THERE WAS A BUDGET TO STICK TO AND IF YOU PRIORITIZED CERTAIN FEATURES OR ELEMENTS MORE THAN OTHERS?

Amelie’s family had just moved into their new home and were in the middle of an extensive renovation so I had to be mindful of their budget.  I prioritised choosing good quality furniture that will last as Amelie grows up.  Amelie was still sleeping in her cot bed but I designed the room around a single bed so that the room will still look amazing once she makes that transition.  The eagle-eyed amongst you might notice that the diagonal lines have been painted to the dimensions of her single bed rather than the cot bed.  I also prioritised a colour palette so that they can add new pieces to the room over time.

HOW LONG DID IT TAKE TO COMPLETE FROM START TO FINISH?

This project was an e-design package which means I design the scheme, floor plan layout and room visuals and give mum and dad a list of where to source everything and styling notes on how to implement the design in their own time.  E-designs are a fun and affordable way of enlisting professional help from an interior designer.  The e-design process typically takes around 2-4 weeks.

WHAT IS THE BEST PART OF BEING A KIDS INTERIOR DESIGNER?

I would say that my favourite part of the job is listening to my little clients wish lists.  Children have such great imaginations and translating this into a design that works practically and aesthetically for the whole family is such a fun process.
